Lysergic acid diethylamide, which is usually shortened to LSD, is a psychedelic drug that frequently goes by the street name acid. The effects of LSD can vary significantly from person to person, particularly including changes in emotions, thoughts, and sensory perceptions. If people take a high enough dose, some of the most common effects include increased blood pressure, dilated pupils, and an increased body temperature. LSD exerts its effects by binding to serotonin receptors and dopamine receptors throughout the body, leading to a relatively quick onset of action, particularly when compared to other substances such as psilocybin. LSD’s effects usually start within 30 minutes and can last for up to 20 hours. Some people describe a mystical experience when they take LSD.
